Into the Cellar for morning reading and what feels very much like the first morning of The Writing Project: editing The Art of Craft - Guitar Craft Monograph Two from September 16, 1988. This was originally written to formalise & clarify much of what was being presented on the early Guitar Craft courses. The experiencing of GC was primary; nevertheless, the articulation of ideas, notions & technical aspects of the practice was a necessary adjunct.
Reading this, towards the end of the monograph…
The student discovers that the answers they receive are generally not the answers they need. Then, they discover that the quality of the answers is governed by the quality of their questions. Sometimes, as a gift, they are given an answer to the question they should have asked. Sometimes, they are given the gift of no answer at all. Sometimes, they get silly answers.
This response might have been offered at several mealtimes, and the Final Meeting, of the GC course completed two days ago in Sant Cugat. The sheer dopiness of the questions asked me by various members of the Beginners’ Group were a main reason why I had no personal meetings with them.
A question worth asking is based in experience & driven by necessity. That is, a good question is essentially practical.
Even a question such as a relationship with God, which is kinda at the high end of questions we might ask, was available to possible answers; but not in the manner the question was formulated & presented. Another question – how do you create music? – is not difficult to answer, but wasteful of time & energy where there is no capacity to listen and/or hear. In any case, several answers were / had already been given to this question, even before it was asked, and the most important right on the first day of the course:
Do nothing, as much as you can.

16.50 The Minx has returned after a successful lunchtime presentation to a women’s conference of ageism.
Launderising & afternoon practicing.
17.30 An inaccurate claim from a professional teacher: Play like Fripp! If this teacher had the press cuttings that reside in the DGM Archive, he would surely know this not a good way of getting work. I don't mind a good & experienced pro canvassing for trade via Facebook, but this is not a claim I like; and its unlikely success only one reason why.
17.59 E-flurrying across a range of issues. To supper at the Piddle.
20.13 A good Willcox family meal I…
II...
The Minx has had a long day, has a longer one tomorrow, and WillyFred has not yet been given the adoration he knows he deserves.
It’s gentling time.
