On the fifth day of the tour the Mystic Maestro & His Disciples performed in the breathtaking surroundings of Barcelona’s Palau de la Música, a superb example of Catalonian architecture. Perhaps not entirely coincidentally, there’s a certain grandeur to the shape and contours of the three soundscapes performed. The first features a swarm in a murmuration of dark, minor tones and ends with a sustained hair-raising clarion call. The second piece builds on the first, filled with ornate detail but ending on a tangle of knotted notes and lines that recalls the sombre coda to Fripp and Eno’s An Index Of Metals. The third soundscape would later be repurposed for the introduction to the title track of Jakszyk, Fripp & Collins’ A Scarcity Of Miracles. Hearing the original form, it's easy to understand why Fripp suggested this particular 'scape for the trio to adapt. If you only buy one show from this tour, this is probably the one to get. Fripp notes in his diary that the gig was, "A powerful performance. Flashes & excessive photography finished the show after one encore, VROOOM. We would have played for another 20 minutes, but something was spoiled. What a pity. And it was a stomper of a performance."
