Houston Hall Afternoon Philadelphia United States

The second day at Houston Hall auditorium also includes snippets of stage chat from Fripp who can be heard describing the background thinking to the Fripp and Eno project, Healthy Colours. Later in the second snippet his contributions to Musician magazine where he talks about the music industry and the dose of new realism it badly needed (and still needs?) at the time.

Fripp was also suffering from a stomach bug, noting in his diary that his intestinal composition “was of a fluid disposition”.
Kimberley Haas, who organised the concerts recalls Fripp being “terribly ill”. When Frippertronics expert Al Okada asked if she recalled seeing Fripp being moved to tears by the music (as recounted to Joe Strummer and Vic Garbarini in the June 1981 edition of Musician Magazine), here’s what she said

“...we did talk about this experience. I don’t recall seeing tears, but he described what he felt and inquired about my perception of the performance. I had started out feeling meditative with a focus on some fairly simple lines that he laid down at the beginning, and then becoming enveloped in the more complex harmonies created by the looping lines, building up to a feeling of total immersion. At that time, I was listening to a lot of minimalism and recall similar experiences in other concerts. I’m not describing it very well but can still recall the feelings. I can’t remember at which of the three shows this occurred, but I have a vague recollection of our discussion being during the day, so it would have been the show in the afternoon on February 21st.”

Our thanks to Al Okada for his help in preparing this release.

Two Loop III's?
Dear Paul, The second Loop III is with the audience bootleg added underneath the 1/4" master loop, so the audience can be heard at the end of the loop, which then runs into the RF dialogue.

Two Loop III's?
There are two Loop III's listed for this recording - might one belong with the evening show of the same date?

Overall okay, but Loop II And Solo - wow!
In general, I prefer the later 1981 shows to this short February run, but "Loop II And Solo" from this show is fantastic - in it’s way a perfect example of Frippertronics at its best. It starts with about 4 minutes of straightforward layering - usually one note added at each pass of the loop - building up a serene textured wash of sound. At about the 4-minute mark, there is some soloing played over the top of the loop, but it subsides back into the background. At about 6 minutes the soloi...
