A mere 910 years after work had begun on the construction of Norwich Cathedral Robert Fripp’s soundscaping melds with these ancient stones. The reaction of many of those experiencing the soundscapes on this tour was that notions of time and space became less fixed as people enter into the special sonic and emotional environment this music creates. CD Coates was one of the 80 or so people present in Norwich. “ A sunny day, and this lightness showed thru' the stained glass windows, and lit the cathedral nicely, showing the knocks and crannies of the stone work in the presbytery.The first half/20 mins had three pieces I think, piano effects, build up of loops, and soloing over it, dense, yet open, matching the acoustics of the venue, four speakers in all, so "surround sound", the music folding in to itself above our heads, and the clarity of the sound was amazing. I enjoyed closing my eyes, getting "lost" in the music, at other times watching Robert, with his eyes just on the foot pedals and adjusting the controls on his rack. All to soon half way, the last piece coming to an abrupt ending.”
