Sadly all that survives of RF’s opening soundscape for the G3 tour, where he opened for Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, is this one small but utterly radiant section. As gorgeous as it is, there was always an inevitability that soundscapes weren’t going to keep an audience predominantly expecting shredding-to-the-max entirely happy. “Skip Fripp” and “This is totally no rockmusic and doesn't fit with the guitar-violence of Vai and Satriani.” are just a couple of the observations made by some of those attending the gig on the message boards at the time.

“The Soundscape set was well received by the Satch band, although a significant proportion of the audience were brave enough to boo loudly. The maxim here is: when the audience boo, go for the bass end. A sound system this large is difficult to overcome, particularly when you get very very down there. I came offstage feeling stronger than walking on.”
