Evensong

Have you ever looked at a sunset and been calmed by the colours and shifting moods of the sky as the light slowly dims?[endtease] That’s what listening to this music is like - at least it is in the cinema inside my head! After the intimate heartfelt soloing of Evensong the listener is drawn into the residual glow of a gently fading soundscape.

Whilst the relative stillness of these three tracks won’t be to everyone’s taste, it’s a sustained reverie that makes the perfect accompaniment to reflection and thought.

Reminiscent of the contemplative atmosphere created on Midnight Blue from A Blessing Of Tears, this download is drawn from two performances from his Estonian churchscape dates in August 2006.

Here’s what Fripp had to say about this studio compilation in his diary. “Evensong from Tallinn, the encore piece & walk-off music, was exactly what I needed to prepare me for sleep. A Late-Evening Song, as it were. Honouring the overall form & sequence of a CD, much of this would have been edited out. And yet… the very slow wind-down, over a period of perhaps 20 minutes from the initial statement, helped me to wind down. This morning, I revisited the Churchscapes compilation & found myself attracted to the Evensong from Haapsalu.”

This is beautiful music indeed.

Fantastic Relaxing Ambiental Soundscapes
Three intimate, relaxing, light soundscapes from Robert.Truely this music sounds much more close to European chamber music of the late 19th-early 20th century than to prog rock.Robert played his music in the churches in Estonia. Listening to the music it’s easy to imagine not Gothic cathedrals but sunset over the Baltic sea. Music is very soothing and healthy. Partly these soundscapes were included on CD album "Churchscapes" but in abridged form. As example, very beautiful "Evensong Coda"...

Glad...
I attended the Boston show and it was a very lifting experience. Robert Fripp was greeting people as they were entering to hall. I remember the music continued for over five minutes after they left the stage. I was blown away then as I am now. I am glad to have a record of this event.

Oh my God!
I think this is one of most beautiful Fripp music I ever heard. In a couple of years, maybe a little bit less or more, Uncle Bob changed way. It has not been a forced "decision" but a natural way of feeling music. For that you might listen to this: it’s enchanting music, very compassionate and true. That’s heart music for good listening hearts. Very pitiful to miss it. Believe me.
