Future Frippertronics
Hello! Are there plans to release more of this wonderful music? Many thanks!
Alex Mundy replied:
Dear Bill, Yes, in the fullness of time. As it stands, it is only 1979 that is under represented on the site, these are all in the recent box set release of Exposures, where all of the Frippertronics in the reel to reel archive are on the Blu-ray Discs. There are some bootlegs in the archive, and I will want to see if I can match those to the archive reels for future releases too.

RE: The best time to be a KC fan
I think that if you're talking about having access to KC recordings, then, without a doubt, this is indeed the best time to be a KC fan. However, if you're talking about experiencing KC live (a "hot date" vs a "love letter"), then I think that most would agree that the (late)1972-1974 period is really it.

Re : Andrew Mather's "Time" Post
I’d like to hear more from Andrew about why he thinks now is the best of times to be a KC fan.
In my opinion the best of times to be a KC fan is when we get the opportunity to see the band in its natural habitat – Live.
For me it would have been during the lifetime of the 7/8 headed beast – The only time, since I discovered my love of KC’s music, that I’ve been lucky enough to experience them in person.

Re: Bruford's mix of Absent Lovers
Fripp's quote in the Martyn Ware podcast (which ΣΩΤΗΡΙΟΣ ΔΙΑΜΑΝΤΗΣ refers to) begins as follows:
"DGM are just about to release Bill Bruford's mix of two live shows, the final shows of 1984 at the Spectrum in Montreal - Absent Lovers. And that, Bill mixed them not long after the performances which I suggested we recorded live."
Is this meant to be included in KCCC49/50 or will it be part of yet another Absent Lovers re-issue?
Alex Mundy replied:
Dear Kilian, I haven't watched/listened to the podcast, so I can't confirm what may or may not have been discussed. But we won't be adding any other mixes to the club release. As far as I can remember, Bill didn't mix both of the final two shows from Montreal.

Time
It’s never been a bad time to be a fan of KC and now it’s feeling like the best of times.
It is hard to tell at times that this is a bootleg tape - the sound is that clear and mostly free from any external noises. There aren't too many live shows from 1971 so this is a real find.
Soundwise it is way above the usual three stars. The playing sounds quite different than what we are used to hear usually for the songs played at this concert. Kudos to the taper.
I had listened to early King Crimson for a few years, but had no idea what to expect. There were complications in that our seats were in a balcony that had been damaged and rendered unusable due to rhythmic dancing at a B52s show a few weeks earlier. We were told to wait in the lobby. I had listened to early King Crimson for a few years, but had no idea what to expect. There were complications in that our seats were in a balcony that had been damaged and rendered unusable due to rhythmic dancing at a B52s show a few weeks earlier. We were told to wait in the lobby. I thought "great, we're going to hear this show from behind a post somewhere." To my surprise the usher came back in a couple of minutes and said "follow me." We were taken to seats in the center, just a little above the stage, halfway between the stage and the sound board. We were fairly well buzzed and tried to sit still and not be obnoxious, but it was difficult. Someone looked at their watch and said "it's eight o'clock." Thank God for punctual Englishmen, they walked on at that moment. There was no warm up, no "hello Amherst." They just picked up the instruments and tore into it. I never imagined the things they could make the guitars do, and all at a heart pounding pace. They'd allow about ten second for applause between songs, then Adrian would lift his guitar, the clapping would stop, and they'd rip through another one. They played a bunch of Discipline, took a quick break, then played a bunch of Beat, which they were about to record. Can't recall what the encore was. Our heads were spinning. I have never left a show where so many people were struggling to find words to talk about what they had just seen. Someone said "it will never be like that again." And they were right.
RF is a master , these soundscapes are an acquired taste, but also hold a huge reward for those who have the patience of mind to slow down mentally and get inside their world.
Master Fripp , what a trip.
