KB Hallen Copenhagen Denmark

The second night of the G3 tour finds the team in Copenhagen and right from the off, fripp delivers some wonderully passionate soloing across the slow surge and swell of the soundscape strings, making this a real keeper!

Whilst Fripp’s music didn’t go down with everyone in the sports hall Rasmus Heide offered this view. “Robert Fripp's opening set consisted of Soundscapes - elongated atmospheric pieces of imaginatively weaved loops and echoes of wide guitar chords over which he solo'd in his particularly slow motion fashion. I'd never seen or heard him play before and it was quite stunning - and obviously a test for the die hard, beer swigging heavy rockers who had come to let their hair down in repeated rhythmical motions. Fripp didn't budge an inch. Extremely cool, determined and focused, he sat on his stool behind large monitors, alternately stroking his Les Paul and twiddling knobs on the racks around him.”

RF’s take on the evening: “The Soundscapes set was met by booing & slow handclapping, for the second evening in a row. I find that if my playing is right, I have no concern for the reception. If my playing is poor, for whatever reason, I am unable to look people in the eyes, as after last night's jam. For Soundscapes, on both the performances so far, my feelings are untouched by the reception.”

Magnificent!
WARNING! I strongly recommend buying the whole tour. Too much blissful music for a good price. This concert is my favourite. Improv I is like a prayer. Probably a precursor to At The End Of Time. The atmosphere slowly builds up in "yearning intensity", and then.. Robert does something that I love above all in ’scapes. He adds additional notes, creating something similar to "firescape" or Schizoid Fantasia. No longer a prayer, more like a screaming anger. Earlier in the track, one might have...

It’s hard for me to imagine booing this music. This is sublime Soundscaping. Repeated listenings have revealed a beauty that is ineffable.
