The second night at San Francisco finds the Crims in good shape with a more chronologically mixed setlist than the previous evening’s gig. The second improv finds the team focussing on a prototype Virtuous CirKcle which would eventually find its place as The Power To Believe Part II.

ET eyewitness Adrian Cockcroft, at his first KC gig, had these to say about the gig. “I thought the opening Red and Thela were much less interesting musically than the new tracks from TCOL,and TCOL itself and FraKCtured were as amazing to
watch as they are to listen to. A couple of pieces were unfamiliar to me, in one Fripp was making bass guitar sounds and Trey played a lead guitar solo without changing their instruments (but presumably employing some electrickery).(He's referring to the two Improvs) I was accompanied by two lady friends who didn't know KC music at all, and they were very impressed, both by the music as a whole and by the display of virtuosity.”

When Belew steps out to do his solo spot he begins by playing the middle section - “on soft grey mornings widows cry” - from The Court Of The Crimson King. As the crowd cheers at this unexpected appearance he cuts it short. “Just kidding!” he says as he then starts picking Three Of A Perfect Pair. What a tease!
