Whichever way you look at this is a significant show:[endtease] the last time King Crimson played anywhere in mainland Europe. As such there’s a certain end-of-term aspect here - a rushing Dinosaur, a final flush in the cheeks of Red as it hits the finishing line. Humour plays its part as well when Belew quips to quell the photographers before a dazzling ConstruKction of Light.
The Crimson machinery occasionally goes awry - Level 5 has a minor disturbance in it but this doesn’t spoil the overall thump and stomp of the beast in action; Belew’s maniacal soloing in LTIA IV is matched only by Fripp’s ripping lines - making this one of the best renditions you’re likely to hear of this track.
The older material also has something of a spring in its step despite its venerable provenance; Trey Gunn’s animated delivery is a joy from start to finish, whilst the soaring theme around the ten minute mark of the introductory soundscape is worth the price of admission alone. All this and belly dancers too? Fripp noted "The Bright Idea For The Last Show Of The Tour appeared: two belly dancers. I saw the first come onstage, knew this was TBIFTLSOTT, and kept my focus close. Then, the second. I continued to keep my focus close. A good wheeze, presented & accepted in good humour."

This is an absolutely fantastic show! I’m not sure what the other reviewer is talking about in regards to Pat’s drumming. Granted, one of the things that bothers me about the early Double Duo sound is Pat’s electronic V-Drum sound which never really created a groove for me. It sounded simple and the effect wore thin on every song. By this time, Pat has a wide array of drum textures and a varied sound. All the songs have that extra little kick to them. The only thing that would’ve made this show better, for me, is if they had played Eyes Wide Open.

This recording is a particular treat for Crimson fans who, like myself, are also moved by Fripp’s soundscapes. The Power To Believe tour, of course, provided a couple of opportunities to incorporate some of those sounds within the body of Crimson’s music on a couple of performed tracks. It was the inclusion of 26 minutes of introductory soundscapes that really drew my attention to this particular recording and, for me, makes this one uniquely appealing - no slight to the enjoyable performance that follows. The sound quality throughout is excellent as might be expected from a board recording. Highly recommended to KC and RF soundscapes fans who want to have their cake and eat it too.
