Thanks for that one Trevor.
There have been a few references to KC spotted in a couple
of diverse literary locations. Firstly, I’m grateful to Antonio Cebola who writes:
“Just to let you know I found a familiar face on the Portuguese edition of
Umberto Eco's ON UGLINESS (p. 437). I guess the english edition will have it as
well. Though I don't understand why it appears in a book ON UGLINESS. I guess
that KC's music, as well as cover art, always polarized opinions..." Although Antonio doesn't specify the image in question (and I don't have the book) I assume Eco is discussing the cover of the first album.
Another take comes from Trevor Lever who has been reading Ian Rankin’s Exit Music – the last in the highly popular Inspector Rebus novels. Trevor starts by setting the scene…
With a few day left to retirement and after a hard day of on a murder case, Rebus is in his flat sitting in his usual chair staring out of his bay window listening to Randy Newman. A catch-up phone call from his number puts him in a more mellow mood:
“He told her he’d see her tomorrow – ‘always supposing I’m needed’ – and ended the call. Sat there another five minutes wondering if she’d call back, but she didn’t. There was something too cheery about Randy Newman’s delivery, so Rebus turned off the album. Plenty of darker stuff he could play – early King Crimson or Peter Hammill, for example – but instead he walked around the silent flat, going from room to room, and ended up in the hallway with keys to the Saab in his hand…..”
Then how about this one sent to me by Hugh of the Art Department? Who could this bespectacled private investigator be based upon I wonder?
And finally over on the guestbook Itdudley asks about whether the KC biography is going to be reprinted. To borrow a phrase, the quick answer is no but the longer answer is yes. More details (such as they are) are on the blog
