King Crimson’s bassist and Stick player turns 79 today.
Tony Levin first joined the band in 1981, and before that had worked with Robert Fripp in 1977-78 on Peter Gabriel’s first two albums and Robert’s solo album Exposure. He's played on Discipline, Beat, Three Of A Perfect Pair and THRAK, and all of the live albums by the most recent 2014-2021 lineup.
After a massive North American tour last year playing the music of the 80s King Crimson with Adrian Belew, Steve Vai (happy birthday to him today too!) and Danny Carey, collectively known as Beat, the group took their sold-out shows to Central and South America in April & May of this year, playing in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru.
Tony also released a new solo album in September last year, Bringing It Down To The Bass, with a glittering cast of supporting players from across his long career.
Here's a track from the album which includes King Crimson’s Jeremy Stacey on drums, brother Pete Levin on keys, and fellow Stickman Markus Reuter on touch guitar. Also featuring Tony's road photos from his time on tour with various bands, and his pet Westies even make an appearance too. Tony Levin - Road Dogs
