A Blast From The Past
Three months after the departure of Jamie Muir, KC sound very different. The repertoire is the same, LTiA enlarged, with a new piece at the beginning, and an old piece at the end. The improvisations still form a large part of the set, occasionaly haunted by the ghost of Jamie Muir. But the sense of impending chaos has lessened considerably, and the compositions are being performed better than before, stricter, more effective. Sandwiched between the very impressive Rome and Paris performances, this gig from Zurich holds its own. Sound: poor, but not hopeless. There is some clarity and dynamics. John Wetton's bass is loudest in the stereo mix, but that's not a crime. I've brushed up all KC bootleg recordings a little further, by reducing the often dominant lower mid-range, after which the low and upper range become more apparent, sometimes resulting in a sound somewhat closer to reality. In this case, I will probably only increase the upper range and leave it at that.
