The first of two nights in Madrid and Crimson have tightened up from the previous concert. The interweaving patterns of Waiting Man are spellbinding here with lots of extra details and rhythms to relish. Belew's solo flows gorgeously over the constantly bubbling backdrop.
If you'll forgive the pun, there's a particular driving version of Vrooom Vrooom. Although it veers uncomfortably near the edge of the road at some points in this rendition, it is undoubtedly one of the key Crimson signature tracks.
Air-raid siren arcs from Fripp announce the arrival of Thrak and the entry into what is an inconclusive but enjoyable improv. Though lacking the collective momentum of the previous concert, there's nevertheless some individual points of interest here.
Trey Gunn’s solo in 3OAPP is a thing of joy although it’s likely that a lot of punters didn’t even realise those wonderfully supple notes were emanating from him on the night. The contrasting precision and mayhem of SSEDD makes it a 90s version of Indiscipline, which is also on fine form tonight.
