Although 44 years separates the personnel and music on King Crimson’s Earthbound and Live In Vienna, both albums feature Sailor’s Tales and 21st Century Schizoid Man, and of course the presence of both Mel Collins and Robert Fripp.
The recently reissued deluxe 2-disc version of Earthbound garnered something of mixed review on the Daily Vault website but praised Sailor’s Tale: “a frantic instrumental with a killer bassline that improves on the studio version due to Mel Collins’ sax work and Fripp’s guitar section, which is more fluid here than the clanking, irritating counterpart on Islands. It’s the best song here and the best take I’ve ever heard on the track.”
Live In Vienna gets nothing but praise via That Devil Music website: “Offering 30 performances by one of the best Crimson line-ups, Live In Vienna delivers an incredible mix of old favorites and new gems in Crimson’s unique, indomitable style…”
