My thanks to Paul Chames for sharing his thoughts on the recent Travis & Fripp concert at Coventry Cathedral.
"Coventry was a real pleasure. Shocking to say but I went beyond the “shiver down the spine” moment and got a tear in my eye at one point. Last time that happened (from live music) was years ago watching Rickie Lee Jones.
I agree about the sound. I saw Tangerine Dream at Coventry Cathedral back when I was a teenager, I was stunned by the sound there then. An excellent day, we sat in on the afternoon sound check / practice too… back to the present.
Enjoyed the performance on the 23rd. I realise that words are inadequate to describe music, but the performance seemed to have more texture than the recording. Was that because it was live… or did the guitar, and sometimes the sax, have a bit more of an edge?"
