Robert Fripp
At The End Of Time
3 stars
These efficiently beautiful pieces were performed in 2006 in
churches in the UK
and Tallinn. Though they do justice
to the ecclesiastical acoustics and follow the arcs of the high arches and
ascend resonantly to the rafters, they do so a little too faithfully. Nevertheless,
a very pleasant reverie in the pews.

King Crimson and Roxy exes ambiently amuse themselves
Thanks to employment by Microsoft, U2 and Bowie, Brian Eno
has parleyed outlandish musical ideas into one of pop’s most ubiquitous and
lucrative careers. This round-up of recent work with regular collaborator
Robert Fripp showcases yet more experiments in minimalist, shifting electronic
textures. Nominally ambient, it’s often abrasive, even before the leap in
volumen and stuttering metallic clang of the Fripp-dominated final track. It’s
gloomy, menacing music that works best left in a background it won’t quite
settle into.
