CAPTION COMPETITION WINNER

By popular demand we’ve drawn a veil over the smirking beast that was the DGMLive caption competition. It’s been a tough, gruelling test of endurance over the last couple of weeks for all concerned – those who’ve tried to come up with something amusing and those of us who’ve had to read it all.

You’ll recall that the prize of a download would be given to the posting that made me laugh the loudest – a scientifically rigorous approach I’m sure you’ll agree – and it’s been a close run thing.

Smirks were registered in the Yellow Room with Redbert’s lengthy but worthy DGMLive spoof:

“Mister Stormy’s Monday Selection:  Today’ selection is the direct to DAT recording of Robert Fripp doing nothing.   Revisiting the theme that was introduced during the fade to silence at the end of the Lark’s Tongue  album and also building on the idea of  the break during  “Dinosaur” : this 57 minute exploration into the subtleties of nothingness is must have of all the “Fripp completists” everywhere.  John Cage said “I especially like his transition from very quite to somewhat silent at the 33:45 mark. This makes my song  4’33’  sound like dead air.”Note: This performance is schedule for a surround sound re-mix in 2009”

A chortle briefly emerged when Baku Llama’s ennui-laden entry arrived

" This suit wounds time"

This one from o0ArdRi0o caused a wry chuckle…

“21st Century Pension Man”

Chuck Benz got the mirth muscle going with his gruff but succinct...

“Goat Afloat.”

David Snyder got the wah-wahs and the popular vote going on the guestbook with his Fripp to the tune of Shaft riff

“Who’s the dressed-in-black guitar music(ian)
That’s a sex machine to all the chicks?
Fripp!

Ya damn right!

Who is the man that would risk his guitarneck
For his brother man?
Fripp!

Can you dig it?

Who’s the cat that won’t cop out
When there’s tapers all about?
Fripp!

Right On!

They say this cat Fripp is a bad mother...
SHUT YO’ MOUTH!

I’m talkin’ ’bout Fripp.
THEN WE CAN DIG IT!

He’s a complicated man
But no one understands him but his woman
Robert Fripp!”

As good as all these (and several others not listed) were, it fell to pete3names to induce the loudest guffaw of all in the Yellow Room with his clever merging of the Fripp back catalogue, aphorisms, dreadful punning and the picture in hand with....

"Remain in the hull without despair."

I contacted Pete last night and he chose this concert as his prize.

Many thanks to everyone who took part and I look forward as I’m everyone else does, to the next one. You know,  maybe the Old Goat had the right idea with the "Humour is not permitted" aphorism after all!
