My thanks to randydandyhappyandfree for sending me this review of RF’s At The End Of Time from the pages of the current edition of Classic Rock magazine.
Fripp’s standing as a musical innovator can’t be called into question. Recording groundbreaking solo material – along with his more widely acknowledged role within King Crimson – his legacy is vast. Yet this ability to create a pioneering sound doesn’t always translate into music you’d listen to more than once.
As the title suggests, the album consists of instrumental soundscapes recorded in churches around the globe. And the soothing keyboard melodies, chiming and random bleeps are pleasant enough, in a new age kind of way.
Ultimately though, the end product sounds like the sort of background music you imagine is used at establishments where people get their colons irrigated – which is not a pleasant image.
