Island Life

On this day 34 years ago, King Crimson’s fourth album Islands was released.

It marked the transition from one era to another as Fripp and Sinfield found a band to take their music live but ended up losing a partnership in the process.

Loved by some, hated by others, the album put a distance between the epic production and shock and awe rock that typified Crimso of the past.

Writer Bill Murphy, who abandoned an attempt to write a biography of King Crimson in the late 90s, is currently making transcripts of his interview with Boz Burrell available on the fan website ProjeKction and are well worth taking a look at.

You can find out what Boz had to say to Bill by going here (registration required) or here (text only).

Staying with the ’71 line-up, guitarist and singer with the 21st Century Schizoid Band, Jakko Jakszyk, has always had a soft spot for that incarnation  since he first saw them at Watford Town Hall in July 1971. He is currently recording a version of the title track Islands, for his solo album, The Bruised Romantic Glee Club, released next year.

So if you get a chance today why not raise a cup of your favourite tasty beverage to the team that put the album together way back in 1971.
