A morning gentling & walking with T. She set off for Canterbury this afternoon & I visited my Uncle Bill, a remarkably fit & together man of 90, at Uxbridge.
Uncle Bill lived in Southbourne, a suburb of Bournemouth, until recently. He is now staying with his daughter Ann en route to further retirement in Spain. Bill retired from the RAF with the rank of Squadron Leader and was for some years based near Uxbridge. Uncle Bill spent 5 years & 7 months in a dozen German camps, and the Great Escape took place from one of these. The pilot shot down with Bill, the navigator, was one of the escapers; when caught, he was shot. While socialising locally with Ann & her circle of friends, Bill met another ex-PoW: an English nurse who imprisoned by the Japanese whose real-life story was fictionalised on tv as Tenko. The nurse was repatriated, following the surrender, and became the mother of actress Jane Seymour.
Drove to Uxbridge listening to Soundscapes from G3 in Europe, now back at Chez Horse listening to Soundscapes in Edinburgh & Newcastle. And practising.
