A good posting in the guestbook from Barry. He is correct that I remain ill at ease with this diary – hence, no doubt, the lack of recent entries. Whether this unease is with myself or this public diary forum is more difficult to know. I am by nature a very private man, who has taken on a very public piece of work – in the hope that it may yet, in Dr Unnecessary's words, "subvert the dominant paradigm".

Today at the Vicarage : The Vicarage.

I am reminded of a dinner party with my cousin – at which I am sure I was every bit as aloof as Barry fears – where we were discussing the failings of the local council. My cousin suggested that I should not complain about those who were doing the best they could, as I had never once considered standing for election. On this occasion I have indeed "offered myself for election" – I have allowed my inner sanctum to be raided in the hope that it will prove instrumental in creating a force for change.

But enough of this introspective twaddle. What of music? Is this not meant to be a music site? I spoke with Fripp today about the idea of an album entitled "Love Cannot Bear". Hold me back, I say. If it is not on all your shelves by the end of next year, it will not be for lack of trying. This is music that is aching to be given voice.
