Circus moves at a fair rate tonight. Played at this kind of speed, with the stabbing massed brass Tron lines provided by Mel, it sounds very close to Dinosaur [endtease]– very close indeed. Also noteworthy because it must be one of the few times that RF slips in those Lizard-quick guitar lines during the chorus. The faint-hearted who think they’ve heard it all before should not be undaunted by the two versions of Get Thy Bearings on offer. They're a platform for some brave and fierce free-form explorations that veer excitedly between chaos and control; Collins and Wallace tear the place apart in the first set whilst fans of Lizard will thrill to Fripp’s allusions to Prince Rupert’s Lament in the second Bearings. Please note that this particular Schizoid Man was cut off in his prime when the tape ran out. Ouch.

This lineup of King Crimson was never my favorite, but after listening to this show, I have a new found appreciation. The band is in great form, especially Boz, who you can tell would have many great moments ahead in his career. He really brings "In the Court of the Crimson King" alive almost makes you forget about the original group. The sound quality is quite good for a show of the era, and the only real sadness is the premature ending of 21st Century Schizoid Man. If you wont to find out what...
This lineup of King Crimson was never my favorite, but after listening to this show, I have a new found appreciation. The band is in great form, especially Boz, who you can tell would have many great moments ahead in his career. He really brings "In the Court of the Crimson King" alive almost makes you forget about the original group. The sound quality is quite good for a show of the era, and the only real sadness is the premature ending of 21st Century Schizoid Man. If you wont to find out what this era of Crimson was all about, this show is a great starting point.

A Few More Standout Moments
If the previous reviews have not convinced you, let me persuade you further. Lady of the Dancing Water is sublime, especially in contrast to the bombastic jamming that precedes it. Also of note in the second Bearings, just before the Prince Rupert solo, Fripp gives just a hint of the lick from LTIA Part I. Finally, the Devil's Triangle is fantastic, with Peter Sinfield's electronic contributions making Holst's allusions to war very explicit. The tape runs out very near the end of the climax,...

This show is definitely supporting evidence as to why this version of the live King Crimson is one of my favorites.

This gig is really awesome: it’s an early set for this line-up but the enthusiastic band is already on top form, creating a lot of exploratory material. The wav files are stunning and I agree with a previous reviewer that this could be the essential KCCC 71-72 release with Detroit & Summit Studios. The double versions of "Sailor’s Tale" & "Get Thy Bearings" are so different & welcome! "Bearings" on cd2 includes some amazing free-form moments with a hidden pres...
