You can bet that nobody in the audience, young or old, ever expected to be cheering King Crimson as they launched into numbers such as Epitaph. So it’s understandable that folks in the crowd were so voluble in their appreciation and singing along to every single word of Peter Sinfield’s cautionary, pessimistic lyrics. The power and the resonance of the 1969 debut seem undiminished by the decades since it first appeared.
