“There’s supposedly a considerable mystique about being a member of a rock band. In a sense the idea of being on the road in the 1980s is very similar in essence to being on the road in the 1950s...the whole beat mythology of Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady and so on. This is...” at which point a heckler repeatedly interrupts Fripp’s attempt to introduce the next song in the set.
After a couple of pauses to perhaps let things settle down, Fripp addresses the character directly: ‘Listen up, you’re a rude fucking twerp - pipe down!” After a roar of approval from the crowd, he finishes the introduction and the band get underway with the as yet unrecorded track. The extended coda, which had been a feature of this run of gigs is a thing of joy. It’s a pity that this part of the song didn’t make it to the final studio cut.
The ending of Sartori In Paris goes pretty out there into atonal psych sounds, eventually to neatly resolve into Elephant Talk. Belew adds a manic drama to his spoken words during Indiscipline, adding a manic quality which is later mirrored in the blistering twin-guitar maelstrom that ensues in the final portion of the piece. It’s pretty intense this one! This isn’t a bad audience recording - a little muddy in places but there’s enough to get your listening gear around.
