Two months after the failed attempt to record the third King Crimson album in Champaign-Urbana, Fripp was back in America and Canada as a solo artist on The Music System Tour. Alex Mundy has once again painstakingly restored the concert experience by matching the surviving original reels with audience recordings to provide us with a close approximation of Fripp's concert and lecture tour.
"You are always torn between a number of different aims. One is the quite genuine impulse to make the audience happy but sometimes that means you have to repeat yourself; you have to retread. It may well be that all of us would be most excited if I played 21st Century Schizoid Man. I don’t know (audience laughter). I think by and large, this is feedback from the industry, the industry would be very happy if I went out with King Crimson and played 21st Century Schizoid Man. But although sometimes I would very much like to, there are very few occasions when that would be an honest thing for me to do."
