Fripp had been test-driving bits of LTIA since the band debuted in Frankfurt earlier in the year. This gig was no exception; you can hear it during Formantera and again during a rather introspective Groon as he sets up the drum solo.

Another indication that the guitarist had one ear on the current band and another on the future, is the sketching out of The Night Watch following Ian’s explosive outing. Here we get a fascinating glimpse of a song that was still a year or so away from being properly realised.

Pictures Of A City is extraordinarily good in this performance showing just how well the band had mastered their brief in the months leading up to their first American outing.

Of course, the fate of all KC incarnations is to have fans baying for older material. Here they get more than they bargain for as a rowdy version of Court is caught with its trousers down. Perhaps a little more detail than we needed there, Boz.

The introduction to Ladies of the Road is missing, and there is a break in the middle of Groon, where the original tapes were changed. Lady of the Dancing Water remains an incomplete fragment.
