“Good evening , ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the League Of Gentlemen, yet another gig on an entirely wretched tour of Europe” says Fripp after the first three numbers. During his brief sojourn at the microphone Fripp responds to a query from a punter. “This gentleman here has suggested it might be more fun if I stood up. It might be more amusing to see my muscular legs stretching like whipcords, but were that the case I should not be able to play. I sit down only because I’m a limited guitarist. I cannot stand and play.”
An impressive performance here with the band sounding tight and very focussed. That’s not to say there aren’t wobbles and the odd mishap or fumble. But the spirit of the thing is often what counts and let’s just say spirits are high on this show. Near the end of the show Fripp returns to the microphone and says “At last. We’ve been waiting for a gig like this. A few gigs like this keep a band’s heart very good.”
The bonus feature on this recording is a soundcheck run-through of Minor Man which also receives its first public outing on this tour. If you were going to buy just one gig from this bundle then this could well be the one to nab.
