Teatro Independencia Mendoza Argentina
Taken from several performances across Argentina between May 30th and June 10th 2007, this collection of soundscapes and LOCG repertoire offers a good through-view of the ensemble. Whereas in previous incarnations the circulations and the ‘scapes have inhabited different worlds, it’s interesting to hear the way they’ve been integrated on this tour. Soundscape IV has a pensive air enhanced and made extra chilly by a series of icy notes from the ensemble.

All Or Nothing made its recording debut as far back as 1986 but it sounds both spiky and sprightly, taken at a fearsome lick. Soundscape III is one of the sweetest you’ll hear, floating in and out of focus like a mirage whilst Circulation Sumerum begins conventionally enough but builds into a Reich-like pulse, setting up the air for a blasting rendition of Thrak. Always welcome to hear a fresh version of the beguiling Voices Of Ancient Children written by Fernando Kabusacki and Hernan Nunez and originally a regular feature of concerts by Los Gauchos Alemanes. The relentless nature of Coda Marine 475 and the sprawling soundscape that comes out of it makes for an especially effective closer.

Powerful!
After problems downloading (eventually everything worked out thanks to a little help from a friend) I now have the recording.I have been listening to GC work since many years and practice it since a year or two so I have at least an impression of what it takes to play this material at the level presented here. The tempo is high (someone mentioned "breakneck speed" in another GC context) and although I was initially afraid this would make the music have a "rushed" feel, it doesn’t. The playing h...
