So yesterday there were a few problems with Robert Fripp’s guitar rig (Sirius Probe) but after much techy searching and tweaking and fiddling it turned out to be the Eventide 8000’s had reset to factory defaults which didn’t work at all for his requirements. It took a while to find the fault but the MIDI settings were all wrong which was the pointer to the problem.

It turned out the Bypass control was set wrong for what we need so it was muting the input when it should have been bypassing it. The units were receiving all MIDI data and going into what I call ’fruit machine’ mode where they roll around loading presets. A bit technical but once re-programmed in the menu system it worked again as it should.
The rig is very complex so fault finding isn’t easy as everything has a ’knock on’ effect on the rest of the system. Anyway, the fix worked and today it has run without problems.
This meant I could finish a bit earlier tonight and have dinner with the American ’rhythm’ contingent. Always a good night out with a very nice (and talented) bunch of guys. Add to this the fact that we’ve found a really nice little family run Italian restaurant and a cheap cab firm and we’re in a good place for the ongoing rehearsals.
The band seemed to be finding their feet musically today, so all is good at this point in time. New and very listenable material is sitting alongside some seriously classic Crimson tracks so this will definitely be a great tour for all of the fans. I expect that if there was a fan set list, this would be it!
Seems a long way off at the moment but looking forward to hitting the road now.
Onwards!
