Available now on the King Crimson YouTube Channel.
King Crimson had at last completed their album Three Of A Perfect Pair in December of 1983, the process since becoming the stuff of legend having taken no less than four attempts in four locations.
Speaking to the Detroit Free Press in 1984 Tony Levin explained: “It’s not easy; we haven’t found one process, we convened to do this album four times. It was the fourth time that hit. and we don’t know why….Immediately we redid all the songs, and it all fell into place, I think maybe it was our frame of mind - each one of us came in ready to do it.”
Sleepless was chosen for release as a single ahead of the album, and was given the full promotional treatment with a radio mix by Bob Clearmountain, a 12” dance remix by New York club DJ Francois Kevorkian and of course, it being the early 80s, a video fit for MTV.
Shot by Los Angeles based directors Mick Haggerty and C.D. Taylor who were at the forefront of the new and burgeoning music video scene, the video features all four band members performing to playback intercut with a series of nightmarish scenes.
