"Phish has just released a series of live recordings from 1988. One of the tunes is the fabled "Dave's Energy Guide," which was hardly played and not well circulated among Phish traders.
The song reputedly was a cover or like a cover of 1980s King Crimson. I'd never heard it until tonight. It's clearly a 1 min. 25 second cover (or as close to a cover) of the song, Discipline."
You can hear around 30 seconds or so of this and lots of other samples over at the Phish website. Having given it a spin myself I’d say I have to agree with Halbie.
