You have the chance to win yourself a copy of Jakko’s album, The Bruised Romantic Glee Club. With contributions from Robert Fripp, Mel Collins, Ian Wallace, Ian McDonald and Gavin Harrison (and many more) there’s one disc of new and original material and another bonus disc of cover versions of tunes that inspired Jakko as a young kid. These include "Pictures of a City" and "Islands" by King Crimson, the Soft Machine classic “As Long As He Lies Perfectly Still” and two numbers by Henry Cow.
To win this double album simply tell me the name of the legendary keyboard player featured several times on the album. For a hint have a rummage around Jakko’s website. Once you’ve done that send an email to competitions@dgmlive.com with the subject Jakko otherwise you’ll be bounced into spamville. The winner will be announced on Saturday 12th January.
Classic Rock declared the album to be “Achingly smooth though confrontationally stark and ambient”, All About Jazz declared “Jakszyk’s guitar work on this disc is even more impressive than his playing with 21CSB”, whilst Uncut advised us to “drool over Jakszyk’s multi-part instrumental writing, daring sonic juxtapositions, daunting time signatures and mania for the Mellotron.” Here’s my own take of the record over on the blog.
