"It is impossible to achieve the aim without suffering" is a phrase most folks will be familiar with from Robert Fripp's Exposure album. However, eagle-eared listener and fan of the Manic Street Preachers, David Symes, was stopped in his tracks by the Preachers recently.
I was listening to their album The Holy Bible. It's a very difficult album lyrically, dealing with subjects such as prostitution, anorexia and the holocaust.
On the 10th Anniversary Edition, there are two versions of the album - a) the original British release and b) the American album which was remixed by Tom Lord Alge. There are lots of soundbites on it. On the American version only we can clearly hear JG Bennett saying "It is impossible to achieve the aim without suffering"
