Orlando in Florida was the next stop for King Crimson
on this date in 1972. For many years the
only excerpt of this gig was the improv Earthbound on the album of the same
name.
The full gig was made available as part of the
KCCC in 2003. When Boz scats “My kind of boogie” on the track Earthbound one
isn’t sure whether its confidence or bravado but he certainly sounds sincere.

The contemplative guitar solo that follows, suggests Robert was into a different kind of bag altogether. Of the singer and novice bassist, Mel Collins wrote “Boz, thrown in at the deep end and much maligned over the years, swings like mad on Schizoid Man…I can’t think of many musicians who could get that together in so short a space of time.”
Given that the lively crowd responded so well to the one-chord workout, ending this gig with a ballad like Cadence might appear to be a risky choice. In the event it’s a sublime conclusion to a solid gig having regained some of the energy that had eluded them the previous evening in Jacksonville.
