GOOD EVENING JACKSONVILLE!

34 years ago on this date Boz, Bob, Mel and Ian arrived in Jacksonville’s Baseball Park. The Sailors Tale was lifted from the soundboard cassettes and included on Earthbound, arguably the first official bootleg. Many years later the whole gig was made available as the second release in the KCCC series.

Out of the mixed feelings and resentment that were in the air on this tour, thankfully more than a few inspired moments emerged as the band bused and flew its way across America. One of these occurs during the sonorous guitar solo of Sailors Tale.

If it seems tinged with regret in places then there’s also a sense of hope to be heard in those smouldering notes; definitely something magical. In this respect it perhaps shares something with Trey Gunn’s ethereal work on Deception of the Thrush.

Elsewhere in the set, a powerful Schizoid Man raises the stakes in this changeable gig - chosen by Fripp for inclusion in the KCCC due to its "exceptional blowing".
