Listening in at DGM studios last week.
David Singleton and Alex ‘Stormy’ Mundy were hard at work on the Elemental Mixes of tracks from Lizard for the forthcoming CD/Blu-ray Dolby Atmos Complete Recordings edition. And some very interesting new ways of looking at the music are emerging.
Elemental Mixes have been described as “An excitingly fresh view on the familiar, with the focus often falling in unusual places, some originally hidden, some unused.” In the densely populated world of remixing, these offer something rather different to a straightforward remix.
With the many alternate takes and numerous overdubs that were a part of the original recording sessions, stripping away some of the layers has allowed new music to emerge. As Robert Fripp himself put it, referring to an earlier remix of the album: "For the first time I have heard the Music within the music". Well prepare for lots more of that. And there's radical stuff too. Bolero without the drums, anyone? It works!

David’s Elemental Mixes have proven to be a highly popular part of the 50th anniversary editions which so far have been released on Larks' Tongues in Aspic and Red.

No release date announcement has been made for Lizard as yet, but expect more news on that in the coming weeks.
