Michael Dornbier: I have a question...that (for once!) ...cannot be answered by asking a question.
RF: Of what concern are my beliefs to Mr. Dornbier, please?
Michael Dornbier: Do YOU believe in a Supreme Being, Creator, God...etc. that has charge over existence?
RF: This is not a direct question. "Do YOU believe in a Supreme Being, Creator, God"... is already complex. Adding the "etc." and we're moving towards the problematic. "that has charge over existence?" and I'm stuck with the Existential. How about - what is Essential?
So a question that "cannot be answered by asking a question" already has two.
The first, proffered with good humour.
The second, because Mr. Dornbier's question is presented in such a form that it prevents me answering in a manner which reflects my experience.
What I believe is without weight. My experience is other.
So, if I may presume to reformulate Mr. Dornbier's question in a form which allows me to respond...
Q: Do you have any experience of a Benevolent, Creative Presence making itself available to you?
RF: Yes.
Now that's about a straightforward as it gets. But also generates all manner of difficulties. Like, who do you think you are?
Were Mr. Dornbier to continue, along the lines of...
Q: Do YOU believe that a Benevolent, Creative Presence is available to us all?
RF: Yes, to the extent that we are ourselves available to that Benevolent, Creative Presence. The good news is, this is now an entirely practical matter: becoming present and available.
At which point, good to bring in...
Stan Bull: However, can Fripp deny devolving into vacuous entertainment? ‘He’s allowed to have fun’.
RF: True, Fripp has devolved. Gratitude to Mr. Bull for reminding those innocents, who have somehow hotsy-trotted onto this page, of the poverty of Fripp's nature. Of more importance than this, thank you to Mr. Bull for reminding myself.
