"King Crimson in Chicago… I looked over the tour listing on the site. It sparked some memories but the lights are dim…Looking at the length of some of these tours is amazing. The 1996 and 2000 tours would have killed an ox! Funny that I found myself disagreeing with some of the Chicago dates listed, surely your grip on the past is firmer than mine. But there were some great shows!
April 25th 1974 at the Auditorium Theater, the first King Crimson show I had ever seen. Robin Trower opening up. I remember his drummer hitting Bruford’s kit on his way out. I remember watching a fellow hippy hopping down the crowded stairs on crutches. What a beautiful venue for a rock show and little wonder they soon ceased to hold rock shows there…This one was it for me, a real eye opener. I had 3rd row tickets for the Red tour in 1975 also at the Auditorium but that show never happened. I was pissed for a long time but of course that cancellation led to roads that I never would have known existed.
I was passionate about this band. It was pretty much my identity in high school. I would walk the halls with a crappy cassette player playing Larks Tongue, Starless and Red. I didn’t make a lot of friends… But those that I did make were good ones."
