Bill Bruford rang up today to tell me he has a new album just out. The Earthworks Underground Orchestra was recorded at the Iridium Jazz Club in 2004 and features regular Earthworks collaborator, composer and arranger, saxophonist Tim Garland.
Bill also mentioned his forthcoming album with the World Drummer’s Ensemble due out in February.
The album is a Dual Disc CD audio / DVD affair and features Bill with Senegalese drummer Doudou N’Diaye Rose, Chad Wackerman from the USA and the Grammy winning, Luis Conte. Their album contains renditions of B’Boom and Conundrum – titles which Crimheads will know from Bill’s tenure with the Double Trio’s.
Check out Bill’s website for further details about this and some of his other releaseson his Winterfold and Summerfold labels.
Bill also phoned in to say the he likes the new DGMLive site and to wish it good luck.
I also took the opportunity to ask him about the recently rediscovered KC track, Guts On My Side. “God! What a racket! Sorry to be hopeless, but I don’t remember anything at all about writing it or playing it” said Bill, adding pithily that he had only just managed to start blanking out that part of his life. “PLEASE don’t loop it and put it out as the new King Crimson album...!”
Now, there’s an idea Bill!
