Although I love the stark simplicity of the original cover I really like the undertow of turbulence and movement that Joseph’s brush-strokes bring to the piece. In this it mirrors exactly the internal difficulties that surrounded the making of this album.
Be sure to check out Joseph’s other peices at this website. You’ll find a striking and inventive mix of figurative and abstract themes going on. Judging by some of the titles, Joseph is keen on David Sylvian, Sakamoto, etc. Here’s an interview with Joseph where he talks about the motivations and inspirations behind what he does. Well worth spending a bit of time getting to know his work.
