Hotel Acceptably So Milan A

Hotel Acceptably So, Milan.

A loud conversation in the corridor at 03.45 woke me up.

Hot coffee & hot milk. Well, not quite hot. More quite-warm coffee with not-very-warm milk. But an exceptionally tasty trough. The amplitude controls of the in-house NPU were set too low to hear what was going on, but loud enough to provide a surface level of arbitrary noise.

The room: what does The HGG tell us about checking in after dark?

The Happy Gigsters’ Guide warns us that if we check in after daylight has gone… when you wake in the morning & gaze hopefully from your window, you will discover that your room overlooks a motorway, a parking lot, a construction site, a filling station, or any combination of these. Your room is also likely to be adjoining the ice machine and/or an industrial level air-conditioning plant.

As further elucidation: the Blue Note has a deal with this hotel for visiting players. This is the finest room made available to our Team, although it falls under the overall heading of lowest rate available for working players. A good view is not necessarily included, particularly when the Happy gigster checks in after dark & can’t see much of it anyway.

13.24    Computing & e-flurrying.

17.12    The please service room sign was out all morning. Please do not disturb went on with afternoon catnap. I was woken by loud conversing of the hotel service staff and then before rising, the door opened while I was still in bed. Service needed?  Clearly, time to get up. No service arrived all afternoon, other than in the 15 minutes of catnapping. There has been constant noise in the corridor from service staff throughout the day.

SoundSculpture on at 20.45. Announcement at 20.57.

We played for c.65 minutes. Who knows? Probably, a gentle hour or so to a respectful response. This is extemporization / improvisation in a secular context, without the accumulated virtue of a house of worship. There are no guarantees.

Back to the hotel.
