Robert, if you’re reading this I’d be fascinated to know what you think of Rob Pope’s ’Creativity’ book. Rob was my tutor at university and I would imagine he’d be a perfect dinner party guest at Fripp Towers.

I’d like to revise my "Robert, what do you think of Rob Pope’s ’Creativity’ book?" question to "Robert, I hope you enjoy Rob Pope’s ’Creativity’ book."

So far, I am enjoying the read, and greatly so. Academic + readable, an impressive overview of different approaches. My own interest in commentaries on the creative act is to see to what extent my own experience/s is clarified; what practical advice is shown, if any, on making the creative leap; and whether my own understanding & formulation of the creative act is paralleled in academic discourse. Noting: I am not an academic; and any words I may find to roughly indicate, as accurately & precisely as possible what is involved, will never come as close as the music speaking for itself.

Reading this, monkey-mind will then twitch a little, a neural synapse fire, and the question blurt out: why bother, then? There are good answers to this question, and readily available to a little reflection; but for money-mind to find its place, and accept its nature, better those for whom this question is a burning issue find their own answers. At least, on this particular morning.

Shortly off to collect Patricia the Sistery Person.

... continuing through to c. 14.30. Uncle Bill was heroic; and his stamina at 95 makes me feel feeble. To lunch with more stories being told, not all of them easily reported.

Returning Sistery to her pals & back to DGM HQ arriving c. 17.50, exhausted.

20.43    In response to an e-mail from GC Course organisers…

1.    as far as the House Rules, probably all that is necessary is:

Good physical & psychological health is a requirement for participation in the course.

then, anything further than this can be discussed in the application process?

2.    work in the Guitar Circle places an increasing emphasis on how & why we play what we play, rather than merely the functionality of playing; although clearly that remains part of the equation.

from one point of view, our attention moves to what is going on inside the player while they are playing. the question: where is our attention while we are playing?

Your applicant “isn’t sure if this is the place for them”. i recommend that anyone with doubts stays away. time to move on.

“it is a folly to expect an open door to remain open forever”.

23.03    The evening’s e-fury was hindered by AOL mailbox maintenance.

23.29    Enough.
