Morning exercise down the garden…

Morning reading and writing…

… to an accompaniment of street-works on the pavement directly in front of our home, the study floor shaking with the implement-of-heavy-flattening flattening the earth in the (former) hole-in-the-ground…

Hooray! Academic tomes on Musical Psychology and Practice are now beginning to address/reflect/inform my performance experience (over sixty-one years and eleven months). This, after decades of commentary that, for a working player in popular culture, seemed strangely distant and disconnected from any act of music that I knew, and knew to be true.

Musicology.
Psychology.
Sociology.
Philosophy.
Epistemology.
Ontology.

Which leaves the actuality of the music industry to be considered.
Criminology?

Reflectings: Emotions. Valence. Why do we feel? Ie what is the function of  having feelings?

Life Is Messy. And Then We Die…

1. Life is what we’re given, living is what we do with it.
2. Life is messy.
3. Living seeks to make sense of the mess.

4. And then we die.

5. There are different qualities of living.
6. There are different qualities of dying.
7. The quality of our dying is the quality of our living.

8. There are different qualities of experiencing.
9. There is experiencing before, during and after living.
10. So, there is an experiencing part-of-us before we are born, while we are living, and after our dying.

Which leads to a practical question: how do we engage with this experiencing part-of-us? The good news: practical questions lead to practical answers. Cosmic horseshit not necessary.

If an innocent wandered past the Home Study and looked in, they would see a quiet, contained old man with books, notebook and a pen. That’s the outside. On the inside – there’s a party going on!

12.08 A break from writing…

… before Toyah and the Toyah Band began their online performance at 11.00, performing and answering questions from fans checking in from all over the world…

The ontological status of the (now-former) hole-in-the ground: other than at the beginning of the day…

Down the street is a queue of social-distancing coffee-and-cake affectionados, queuing for take-away coffee and brownie boxes…

Life is returning to the centre of town, and it feels good. That is, the valence is positive.
