Hotel Modest Ventura The gratis

10.55

Hotel Modest, Ventura.

The (gratis) breakfast buffet was not quite as humble as yesterday morning, but to describe it as modest is to exaggerate its appeal. Guests who submitted to the allure of heartburn-conferring ingredients congreted in the breakfast area to shout at each other & make loud cellphone calls, all echoing around the small covered space. The noise drove me away, and would have done so even were a dessert buffet available.

A walk to Starbucks on Main & a reading/reflection period over coffee. Morning reading, for many years an established part of my beginning day, has been put on hold in recent months by an outbreak of stuff, particularly litigation stuff. So, it was a pleasure to read-feed & chew over recent arisings.

Two questions considered:

1. How may I be useful to the inexperienced in Guitar Craft?
2. How may I remain un-blunted & undamaged by my contact with them?

15.41 Hotel Acceptable, Los Angeles.

A drive to Los Angeles & a salad at the California Pizza Kitchen. The Starbucks that usually attracts my custom, where I read Dr. Lucy Green's Music Gender Education, has been demolished as part of a large redevelopment opposite the Beverly Center.

The View From A Room…

Hotel Acceptable is also being refurbished, and the ice machines are/were on the other side of the closed area. So, no Starbucks in the morning & no ice at any time.

23.09 The Wilshire Theatre…

A good set, subjectively assessed, with new ideas for Soundscapes appearing while practising in the dressing room. I began playing as the doors opened. Four FQMs in attendance, under All Quarters Maintainer Ralph.

Porcupine Tree were superb & received a standing ovation. This is a band that could well move into the mainstream with its musicality + edge. I am enjoying being on their bill: our pairing has synergy & PT audiences have been most supportive of Soundscapes.
