Sometimes you wonder! I jogged around the carpark first thing in the morning, watching the big neon display outside the venue cycling through its announcements. John Legend coming soon, Alice Cooper coming soon, Air Supply coming in 2022, messages from sponsors. And not a single mention of King Crimson playing the venue that very evening.

Bizarrely, they ran an advert for King Crimson on the screens inside the venue – which, of course, you can only see if you have already bought a ticket… The show was relatively well attended under the circumstances.

The Royal Packages are always a fascinating mix of the serious, the humorous and everything between. At the end of his welcome, Robert Fripp was asked by a woman almost in tears if she would ever see him playing live again. “That is not up to me. I go where I am sent,” was the answer.

At the end of the Royal Package, Mel Collins was asked by a different attendee about his own plans for the future…

To which his own wonderful reply was “To stay alive!”.
