Teatro Metropolitan Mexico City 4

The first couple of minutes of this reading of Larks’ Tongues In Aspic’s penultimate thunderer has a diaphanous, ambiguous quality to it, enhanced by Jakko’s yearning guitar undulating against the backdrop of fevered hand percussion and sultry Mellotron. It’s not often that Jakko solos up front so it’s especially welcome to hear him teeing up this scorching version as Crimso rev it up and proceed to rock out.

A fantastic night
This day, tuesday 18, July 2017, it was an incredible night (an avening with King Crimson), opening with Neurotica and the classics guitar riffs became present. One of the greats gigs I´ve ever seen....and heard. Greetings again from México, come back soon! Long live King Crimson!!!

Crimson at their best
This is a fine, dreamy reading of "The Talking Drum", nowhere near as fierce as other versions but infinitely evocative. However, the track itself is not what I wish to talk about. I have had the privilege of seeing King Crimson in action 17 times, including all five nights of their Mexico City residency (as well as the 1996 shows which begat VROOOM VROOOM!), and this particular show may just have been the best out of all of them. This was Crimson at their best, at their most powerful, inspired and precise. When the whole show is one day released, as by rights it must, mark my words, for you will hear the best versions of "Pictures of a City" and "Easy Money"... maybe ever.
