For those who relish those concerts where Fripp explores the darker places of music’s psyche, then this complete performance will certainly raise the hairs on the back of your neck.[endtease]

The seventh concert of his Words And Music tour in June has Fripp conjuring incoming storm clouds of terrible and occasionally terrifying beauty. The opening gambit of Queer Space asks as many questions it answers; this is music whose presence is open-ended, pensive and potentially unsettling.

It is followed by fleeting swoops of angelic voices that swish and sashay across the air before ushering the listener into the ponderous beginnings of Threnody. Yet amidst the song of the mourning hope and light can still be glimpsed. What follows on Acceptance Affirming is tender and gentle by comparison.

After the growling, churning orchestral tumult of Foreboding the peace of Resolution is a breath-taking highlight of this concert. As he was preparing this show for download Mister Stormy felt this track to be especially moving. He’s not wrong.

The guitarist noted that this was again a “good show”. To these ears this was arguably a more introspective set compared to the previous evening in New York’s Society for Ethical Culture. Please note that Acceptance Affirming from this performance first appeared on the Love Cannot Bear album. Please note also that there are some pops and clicks which were caused by a leaking Lunar Module on the tour, and are thus audible here and there. They will in no way spoil your listening pleasure.

IMO
Queer Space - The best soundscape ever.
Written by Piotr Grzelec
The are some noticeable changes in this performance comparing to the previous show in New York. Music seems to be more spacious and open as if artist was in search of the new ideas. However its mood seems to be deeply personal. And although the sound is not as clear as with NY download and overall performance maybe not as concise as its predecessor music remains moving and emotional, just like Queer Space, a piece which could either express the greatest happiness or the greatest loss...

I remember this show well.   Perhaps I remember this as my favorite of Mr. Fripp’s Boston soundscape visits.   Though the jam packed Boston House of Blues show from a few years earlier is another standout show (for its intense audience standing and crushed to the stage!).   In Somerville that warm summer evening, it all seemed to come together nicely.  Thank you for your many Boston performances.  I hope that you will find playing music in Boston some...

Wow.
Wow.  This may just be the perfect soundscapes - for me at least.  The mood is definitely darker, but more importantly deeper, too.  It unsettles (Queer Space), disturbs (Threnody and Foreboding), and soothes (Acceptance and Resolution) in a way that none of the other performances quite do.  Highly recommended.
