February 25, 1980 A Few Goodies There

This track is now available for download as part of a bumper collection of Mr Stormy's Monday Selections - his second year of random romps through the murky, cavernous DGM archives, torch in hand, fedora upon his head.

Here’s another must-have catch fished from Mister Stormy’s poacher’s pouch. The LoG is on fine off-kilter trance-dance mode whilst Fripp offers the same kind of rip-shredding form that you hear on David Bowie’s Scary Monsters. Interestingly, the strident motif he plays sounds to these ears like a close cousin of the theme from The Sailor’s Tale. Either way this is 13 minutes of scorching stuff.

Surprised and Puzzled
This to me seems to have happened by accident. I subscribe to the podcast and when I first heard this I was absolutely floored. League of Gentleman (LOG - for Brevity) originally conjured by Fripp to create somewhat of a dance groove failed miserably to accomplish its purpose. The music made during this time, however, was undoubtedly experimental and had something special to offer. If you were to listen to only one LOG song this would be it.

Searing, scorching, soaring and totally cliche free
Well this one sure took me by surprise. Quite unlike anything the LoG ended up sounding like. This is raw, brutal and beautiful. The guitar sound is Fripp in excelsis. He navigates us through 13 thrilling minutes of totally cliche free, on the edge guitar playing. The groove is more akin to something like Can, with Mr Toobad and Ms Lee keeping everything chugging away beautifully. Wow that guitar must have shaken the walls of that hunting lodge. The ropey sound quality only adds ...

At last some
This is my favorite Fripp incarnation and I have played the two 80s releases over and over.  And not that I don’t still adore them but it’s really cool to hear something so entirely new and different and I would even dare say kinda sexy. :)

Wonderful!
From about 4:00, I hear a guitarist with good ideas building and developing a fine theme. From about 9:10, I hear a guitarist ripping tonality a new asshole.
