Columbia Berlin Germany

From the opening seconds of this gig it sounds like King Crimson have truly arrived. Powerful, confident and possessed of a driving momentum this concert marks the best of the dates played so far. Belew’s soloing during Oyster Soup is scorching stuff and the band really open up around him. Following some internal retooling of the piece in the soundcheck, FraKctured is a finger-fest of savage proportions, moving and grooving within itself in a way it’s not quite managed to do before. The improv tonight begins in a subdued fashion before entering a turbo-charged P4-esque zone, enabling Fripp to step out of soundscape mode to briefly hurl a few laser beam bolts about the place. The version of LTIA 4 is about as good as you could want it to be!

Donnon Murray had seen the band play in Denmark earlier but thought this show had the edge. As he told readers of ET Copenhagen was very good but Berlin's performance blew it away.Louder, punchier, tighter...There were marked differences in the Copenhagen and Berlin performances, qualitatively speaking. All of Fripp's solos seemed longer and more intense in Berlin. One Time was chillingly beautiful. ADrian's vocals seemed more impassioned and powerful. Vroom and TCOL were tighter. Fripp' playing on Heroes in Berlin was more fluid and melodic.Heaven and Earth and the Instrumental encore seem to be malable and will probably change every night, keeping things interesting.” The version of Thrush from this gig was included in the Heavy ConstruKction set.
